The Woolverstone Project, based at Alton Water, recently celebrated its 30th birthday and facilitated 1,380 sails for more than 160 people last year.
Founded in 1993 by the Royal Harwich Yacht Club, the project started out many young sailors with sensory disabilities and learning difficulties.
But the project relies on volunteers to make these experiences possible.
Martin Kenyon, of the Woolverstone Project, said: “All this would not be possible without the help of a small army of volunteers, contributing around 3,500 volunteer hours a year. To enable us to continue to offer disabled sailors the fun and freedom that sailing brings we are always in need of more volunteers.”
Some participants of the programme have had huge success, including at the World Access Championships.
Anyone keen to volunteer is asked to go along to Alton Water on any Monday morning except bank holidays, or email chair@woolverstoneproject.org.uk.
