San Marcos High Sailing Earns Second-Place Finish at ISSA All Girls National Invitational | Sports

The San Marcos High sailing team came away with a second-place finish at the ISSA All Girls National Invitational at Mission Bay Yacht Club in San Diego over the weekend.

The championship, which took place on Saturday and Sunday, was made up of 24 teams from all across the country. San Marcos finished just behind Corona Del Mar for the overall title.

While the team finished in second place, the pairing of junior Carly Kieding and senior Hope Campbell dominated the A Fleet Division to earn the title of the best team in the nation.

Across 12 different races, Kieding and Campbell crossed the finish line first in six of them.

The second half of the San Marcos squad, freshman Taylor Escola and senior Catalina Matlock-Klein, followed up Keiding and Campbell with a solid performance of their own to clinch second place.

San Marcos is led by head coach Kenny Kieding.

“The success of this weekend is all on the girls,” Kenny Kieding said. “They were equipped and I just gave them some ideas here and there, but ultimately their intuition and tactics are what made them winners! We couldn’t be more proud of their hard work.”
