Hyderabad: Of the total nine assembly constituencies it is contesting in this , the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) candidates are facing a stiff competition in Nampally, Yakutpura, Rajendranagar and Jubilee Hills.
The five other seats where it is in the fray include Chandrayangutta (represented by its floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi), Karwan, Charminar and Bahadurpura — all of which it had won in the last polls. In 2018, AIMIM had contested eight seats, winning seven and losing in Rajendranagar. This year Jubilee Hills is the additional seat.
On Thursday, Nampally recorded 42.7% voter turnout when reports last came in . While the contest is mainly between the AIMIM and the Congress in Nampally, the BJP and BRS cadres are not ruling out the possibility of its candidate emerging as a dark horse. There are, in all, 34 candidates from various parties and independents in fray from this constituency which is a sitting seat of the AIMIM.
However, it is a five-cornered contest in Yakutpura with candidates from MBT, BRS, BJP and Congress trying to snatch the seat from AIMIM which has not lost it since 1999. The polling percentage recorded was even lower in this constituency at 39.6%. In all, 27 candidates are in fray from this seat. The AIMIM has not won Jubilee Hills and Rajendranagar assembly constituency so far and is hoping to turn the tide in its favour in these two seats. The Congress, BJP and AIMIM are trying to wrest the two seats from the BRS. Though BRS and AIMIM are friendly parties, they have been indulging in ‘friendly contests’ since 2018 elections.
Meanwhile, the voter turnout recorded in Jubilee Hills and Rajendranagar was 45.2% and 55.8% respectively. As many as 19 candidates are in fray from Jubilee Hills and another 25 candidates from Rajendranagar.
In Malakpet, the BJP and Congress are trying to turn the tables on AIMIM which has not lost the seat since 2009. Though the BRS too is in the fray, the contest is likely to be triangular one between AIMIM, BJP and Congress. The voter turn out here was 41%. In all, 27 candidates are in fray.
