Frenchman Caudrelier wins round-the-world sailing race


STORY: Caudrelier skippered the Maxi Edmond de Rothschild across the finish line off the coast of Brest in France to take the victory in the first-ever solo multihull race around the world.

The six teams set sail in their 32m long Ultim trimarans on January 7 and sailed from west to east around the three capes. Caudrelier had been unchallenged at the front of the race since January 17.

Caudrelier completed the race in 50 days 19 hours 7 minutes and 42 seconds, having travelled 28,938.03 miles at an actual average speed of 23.74 knots.
