French toast, bacon and excitement is in the air at scrub island marina as alpha fleet prepares for their big day. While everyday is a fun filled day in the sun, today is a day we have all been waiting for; it is race day! With life jackets zipped and clipped and Nalgene’s filled, we cast off our lines and head out to raise the sails before the start line.
The course includes rounding the seal dog islands and setting the anchor in Long Bay at the North Sound before time is called. The race committee on Tropical D counts down 3,2,1 and it is full sails full speed ahead! Malia and Maora are the first to cross the start line. Each boat trims their sails to the wind and plans the perfect timing for their tack to round the dogs.
It has been a close race, the winner may not be determined until the last few seconds. At the finish line, Mile Hi and Life’s Been Good drop their sails and charge into Long Bay and prepare to drop the anchor to fight their way to victory. It was a close call, but in the end Life’s Been Good finished on top! Their prize is the ever so coveted digestive cookies which have previously been banned on board. The rest of the boats trickle in and settle into a relaxing afternoon in the bay.
