With Tropical Storm Ernesto yet to reach the BVI, our fleet had a very chill morning on the docks of Scrub Island. The students were able to walk around to the shops including a boutique, the dive shop, and a yummy grocery store!

Afterwards, our Marine Biology Coordinator Janaye led a squid dissection with our Sierra and Foxtrot students. They learned about all the different parts of the squid and even made some art with the ink pouch on the squids. Also, Suzanne and I got crafty with some of the students making friendship bracelets and jewelry with different charms and seashells that had been collected throughout the summer. They made some beautiful jewelry! Finally, Sadie and Anna led a study session for the ASA students on their upcoming exams. They are ready to ace their test!

The storm was starting to blow in slightly so the staff made sure all of the sails and boats were tied down properly and then each student grabbed some of their belongings and headed up to the hotel lobby at Scrub to get cozy for a movie! Because of the large gusts of wind, the students and staff slept in the nicely air-conditioned hotel and watched Pirates of the Caribbean.

It was a restful sleep during the storm and Ernesto luckily didn’t cause any damage to our fleet. Now, our staff and students are ready to get out and sail again once it is safe!

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
