Some of the group explored the tree-lined streets of Statia while others went diving in reefs brimming with sea turtles. Other main characters included a nurse shark, a barracuda, and giant lobsters. Day 15 was Challenge Day, and Miles, as the skipper of the day, led the group on a peaceful sail to Saba. We swam around the boat when we arrived at our picturesque mooring, then had supper under the stars.
Day 16 featured a trip to a pristine reef to snorkel and dive. Garden eels, sea cucumbers, a lemon shark, sea turtles, and trunkfish dotted the protected area — each dive we do somehow seems to get even better! After a packed previous few days, we spent a relaxing afternoon swimming around the boat, reading, and listening to music.
The next day, we taxied up a steep, winding road to JoBean’s glass shop. Each camper got to make their own glass bead under a flame and enjoyed seeing how everyone else’s turned out. We then explored the town around the shop and danced in the streets in a downpour that suddenly appeared.
