Follow Our Journey! Alpha & Tango – Day 9

Written by Sadie C., Captain on Betty’s Dream

Alpha day nine! We woke up at Sidney’s on Jost Van Dyke and had a challenge day briefing! Each boat’s navigator, skipper, and mate went to the staff boat to hear about what they needed to know for the day including where we were going, how to use the chart how to navigate, what they needed for Olympics, and the full schedule.

Betty’s Dream left Sidney’s and motored over to Sandy Cay where we dropped anchor on our first try! After making a boat flag and getting hyped, we headed ashore for the competition. After a speedy run of dizzy fender, each boat made a synchronized swim that included many flips, twists, and tricks! We loved getting to hangout with Mega and Lima fleet! Boats then battled it out in tug of war where Betty’s Dream bodied their competition to take home the victory.

Finally, the boat turned their counselors into sand art including a sailboat, an eagle, and a couple mermaids.

After Olympics, the challenge day continued with an up-anchoring and sail raise around the north side of Tortola. Our sail today included lots of working together to get our sails raised and trimmed, a dance party, and lots of flying fish!!! The challenges continued with a mooring ball pickup at Trellis bay. The evening concluded with a recap on challenge day where Betty’s Dream reflected on what lessons they learned to carry with them through the end of program. The night concluded with a gratitude circle about crew mates.

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
