Smooth sailing during Super Tuesday primaries

MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WAFF) – Super Tuesday is over, and many local election officials said it was a smooth process.

Madison County Probate Judge Frank Barger said things went great during Tuesday’s election.

Only about 15 percent of eligible voters went to the polls. That’s more than 50 percent less than the 2020 primaries.

Barger said they did use a different printing process this year. He added they did have a problem early on because of that.

“The printing process has changed slightly, so we’re working on that,” Barger said. “That probably caused us the biggest issue yesterday, it had no negative effect certainly on the outcome of the election but we went with a lot of spoiling ballots yesterday where they would not tear off of the ballot pad correctly. We’re working with our Secretary of State, we’re working with our vendor for it to be resolved before our next election. But overall, procedurally, certainly from a technical standpoint and a logistic standpoint, yesterday went very well.”

Barger said he was disappointed in the turnout of Tuesday’s election.
