Flushing Sailing Club, Cornwall floating pontoon and bridge

The club says it has been working on a proposal for a floating pontoon in the river accessed via a tidal bridge from the end of New Quay.

It now has detailed draft plans that it wishes to show to all of its neighbours, village residents and the wider community so they can explain the thinking behind the project and to listen to all comments.

“Where deliverable and affordable, comments will then be incorporated into final designs,” they say in a post on Facebook.

“To implement such a scheme we will need consents from Cornwall Council (Planning & Listed Building Consent),the Marine Management Organisation (marine licensing) and the Falmouth Harbour Commissioners (navigational matters).

“We will also be able to explain our Development Plan, our Environment Plan and our Sustainable Transport Plan which provide the context for the scheme.”

The club will be holding a consultation event, open to all in the clubhouse, next Wednesday (January 10) between 3pm and 8pm.

The volunteer Project Team and specialist planning and design consultants will be able to explain the scheme and answer questions.

“We would be delighted to see you there to debate the proposals,” they say in the post.

The club also currently has an application in with Cornwall Council to build single storey for its small Beer Cellar at the rear of the bar and for a single solar panel to be put on the club.

The new clubhouse was officially opened by the Princess Royal, President of the RYA In August 2021 following a fundraising campaign.

There has been a clubhouse on the quay since 1959 which was extended in 1966 and again in 1975, with further improvements made in recent years.

The campaign to get a new clubhouse started in 2014 following yet another leaky roof incident.
