Three junior sailors from the U.S. Virgin Islands recently finished competition in the 2023 Youth Sailing World Championships, which concluded Friday in Armacao dos Buzios, Brazil.
St. Thomas’ Alejo di Blasi was the top Caribbean finisher in the men’s ILCA 6 (Laser Standard) class, finishing 25th overall out of 48 entries with 187 points.
Di Blasi, a member of Antilles School’s sailing team, had one top 20 finish – 12th place in the second race – in nine starts in the men’s Laser class.
Meanwhile, St. Croix brothers Rodney and Ryan Moorehead finished 30th in the men’s/mixed 420 class with 301 points.
The Moorehead’s best finish was a 21st place in the opening race of 12 scheduled starts.
