We woke up at the Bight on Norman Island after a windy sleep that kept us cool. It was our first night sleeping on the boat away from the docks on Tortola!!! We had pancakes for breakfast and then our open water divers headed ashore for their first day of confined dives in the water.
The rest of the group embarked on a classic Sail Caribbean adventure ~ the helipad hike. It is only about the length of 1 American Pie song but the incline will get you! It takes you to a helipad at the top of Norman Island with some awesome 360 views. On the helipad we played “where the wind blows” to get to know each other and another Sail Caribbean favorite, Oh Captain My Captain.
After the hike we went tubing and sailing on our smaller keelboats. We had lunch and then our advanced and fun divers met the dive boat for an afternoon dive. The rest of the crew had a snorkel and Caribbean fish ID lesson with Janaye, our marine science guru. After the lesson we picked up a mooring ball around the corner for an epic snorkel of the caves. We saw surgeonfish, parrotfish, angelfish, some moon jellies, a squid, and got to explore the caves!!
After the snorkel we went back to the Bight to meet up with our dive friends and started ocean showers and dinner prep. After dinner, our advanced and fun divers got to go on a night dive! They saw a sleeping shark, an octopus, a seahorse, and a huge Caribbean lobster! After the night dive, we cozied up for boat meeting then hit the hay after a well deserved day.
