The crews are finally off the docks! We picked up our lines and left for Cooper Island, across the Sir Francis Drake Channel from Hodges Creek. We are spending two nights total at Cooper before we head to Norman Island’s ‘The Bight’ this coming Tuesday.
Half the fleet picked up mooring balls at Cooper Island, and the other half dropped anchor at Salt Island, a 20-minute sail away from Cooper. Everyone enjoyed a fleetwide hike on Salt Island and listened to captains tell stories of the shipwreck of the H.M.S. Rhone that sank in 1867 off the coast of Salt Island. The crews were eager to hear some history and enjoy the incredible views.
We also did a boat swap! Kids were able to meet other campers on other boats as the boats anchored at Salt Island picked up anchor and moved to Cooper to join the rest of the fleet. Many new friends were made and pita pockets were shared! Later, dive students enjoyed spending some time in the ocean observing the marine wildlife and ecosystem underneath the surface–almost like being a part of a whole new world!
